Write for Palaver.
We are looking for 3 founding writers. Sharp voice. Strong perspective. Something to say.
What we publish
Culture. Politics. Identity. The African experience, undiluted.
We publish long-form essays, culture criticism, political commentary, and reported features. We cover the continent — all 54 countries, all languages, all perspectives. We do not explain African references to outsiders. We do not do false balance. If something is wrong, we say it is wrong.
How to pitch us
One paragraph on what you’d write and why it matters right now. No need for a finished piece.
Published or unpublished. We care about voice, not credentials.
On what you’d bring to Palaver that no one else can.
Our editorial value
We write with authority, not permission.
No outsider gaze
We do not explain African references to non-African readers. Outsiders can catch up.
No false balance
If something is wrong, we say it is wrong. We do not give equal weight to unequal arguments.
All languages welcome
English, Pidgin, French, Yoruba, Twi — code-switching is not a problem, it is a feature.
Real editing
Every piece gets a proper editorial eye. We take the work seriously because we take our writers seriously.
